10,000 BC (2008) is an American action-adventure film co-written, co-produced and directed by Roland Emmerich, with additional writing and scoring by Harald Kloser. The movie follows a tribe called the Yagahl living in the Ural Mountains during the last Ice Age. Their main source of sustenance is hunting woolly mammoths, but their numbers are rapidly decreasing. A skilled hunter who has successfully taken down a dangerous animal receives blessings from an elder shaman named Old Mother. When the village chief discovers a young survivor named Evolet, who had escaped from a massacre by ‘four-legged demons’ described by Old Mother, he sees her as a symbol of hope for their tribe’s survival.

The tribe believes the mammoths are demonic and sets out to hunt the herd leader. However, their current chief does not trust this prophecy and ventures off to find an alternate solution to save his people more quickly. He leaves behind his young son D’Leh, who he has entrusted with the White Spear and the true purpose of his quest, under the care of his friend Tic’Tic. D’Leh is mocked by the tribe’s children for his father’s apparent cowardice, but he finds solace in Evolet, and their bond begins to deepen into love. Many years later, when the mammoths finally return, D’Leh joins his tribe in hunting them under Tic’Tic’s leadership. By chance, D’Leh accidentally kills one of the beasts and wins both Evolet and the revered White Spear. But their joy is short-lived as they are suddenly attacked by mounted riders on horseback the next day.
