As he is battling cancer, Al asks Jake to go back in time and prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Despite his own failed attempts and setbacks due to his illness, Al shares his research with Jake and advises him on what not to do based on his past experiences. With this knowledge, Jake assumes the identity of James Amberson and begins surveilling a potential handler for Lee Harvey Oswald. However, he quickly realizes that the past is not easily changed as unforeseen obstacles hinder his progress. Returning to his residence, Jake discovers that it has been set ablaze and most of Al’s notes have been destroyed. Tragically, the landlady’s son has also lost his life in the fire. Feeling defeated, Jake considers returning home but ultimately decides to stay and try to prevent a multiple murder that he had learned about in present time.
