12 Monkeys (2015 — 2018)

The American television series 12 Monkeys (2015–2018), created by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, follows a science fiction mystery drama with a time-traveling plot based on the 1995 film of the same name. Set in the year 2043, the story centers around scavenger James Cole, who is recruited by a team of scientists led by physicist Katarina Jones for ‘Project Splinter’. Their mission is to prevent the release of a deadly virus by an organization known as the ‘Army of the 12 Monkeys’ in the year 2015. In Cole’s original timeline, this virus caused a devastating plague, resulting in widespread human deaths. In order to stop this tragic outcome, Cole must join forces with brilliant virologist Dr. Cassandra ‘Cassie’ Railly. Cassie’s previously recorded message mentioning Cole catches Jones’ attention in the future timeline and leads her to select him for this vital mission.

Cole will encounter multiple individuals on his journey, including a brilliant but unstable math prodigy named Jennifer Goines. His mission includes assassinating her father, along with facing off against Aaron Marker, Cassie’s former flame, and the notorious ‘Pallid Man’ and Olivia who hold high positions in the Army of the 12 Monkeys. In addition to these challenges, Cole must also navigate his complicated relationship with his best friend José Ramse and confront Theodore Deacon, leader of a ruthless group that he and Ramse once escaped from. Together, Cole and Cassie race to uncover the identity of “the Witness,” the mysterious leader of the Army of the 12 Monkeys who always seems to be one step ahead of them.
