The survival drama, 127 Hours (2010), was written and directed by Danny Boyle. In April of 2003, experienced hiker Aron Ralston sets out on a solo trip in Utah’s Canyonlands National Park without telling anyone. While on his journey, he meets two lost hikers named Kristi and Megan and helps them find their way. During their time together, they stumble upon an underground pool and spend the afternoon enjoying it. The girls invite Aron to a party the next night and he happily agrees before saying goodbye. Continuing through Bluejohn Canyon, Aron comes across an 800-pound boulder that suddenly breaks loose while he is climbing, causing him to fall and trapping his arm against the wall. Despite his attempts to move the boulder with a pocket knife, he soon realizes he is alone and begins recording a video diary with his camcorder to stay positive as he chips away at the rock.

During this process, the knife slips from his hand, forcing him to use makeshift tools like his feet and a small branch to retrieve it. For the next five days, Aron carefully portions his food and 300ml of remaining water. He struggles to stay warm at night and resorts to drinking his own urine when his water supply runs out. In a futile attempt, he sets up a pulley with his climbing rope to lift the boulder. As time passes, Aron’s desperation and sadness grow, leading him to hallucinate about escape, relationships, and memories – including thoughts of his family and ex-girlfriend Rana. He even envisions himself at a party he was invited to, enjoying himself. In one particular hallucination, Aron realizes his mistake of not informing anyone about his whereabouts or how long he would be gone.
