16 Blocks (2006), an American action thriller film directed by Richard Donner, follows Jack Mosley, an alcoholic and jaded NYPD detective. Despite working a late shift the night before, his lieutenant orders him to escort Eddie Bunker, a witness in a police corruption case, from local custody to the courthouse 16 blocks away for a 10 a.m. grand jury hearing. Bunker tries to connect with Mosley by sharing his dreams of becoming a cake baker in Seattle with his sister whom he has never met. However, Mosley remains uninterested and makes a stop at a liquor store. Suddenly, they are attacked by a gunman and seek refuge in a nearby bar. Mosley’s ex-partner Frank Nugent and other officers come to their aid. However, it becomes clear that Nugent and his men are involved in the corruption scheme when he reveals that defending Bunker would expose their illegal actions.

The corrupt police officers attempt to blame Bunker for shooting at an officer and then try to murder him. Mosley saves Bunker and they quickly leave. After making a brief stop at his sister Diane’s place, Mosley grabs guns and ammo and discovers that the police have already spoken to her about his actions earlier that day. They take precautions to outsmart the police, but Mosley gets injured in the process. Eventually, they end up trapped in a rundown apartment building while Nugent and his men search each floor. In a desperate move, Mosley calls the district attorney for assistance but intentionally gives the wrong apartment number, suspecting there may be a traitor involved. In order to escape, they both board a passenger bus with the police in pursuit. However, Mosley is forced to treat the passengers as hostages under pressure from law enforcement.
