Premiering on December 19, 2021, on Paramount+, 1883 (2021–2022) is an American Western drama television miniseries created by Taylor Sheridan. It stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Sam Elliott, Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, Marc Rissmann, Audie Rick, Eric Nelsen, and James Landry Hébert. Serving as the first of several prequels to Sheridan’s Yellowstone, the series chronicles how the Duttons acquired the land that would become the Yellowstone Ranch. Spanning ten episodes and concluding on February 27, 2022, it is the second installment in the Yellowstone franchise. The series features May as narrator and was followed by 1923 on December 18, 2022, with May returning as narrator once again.
The Dutton family, post-Civil war generation, departs from Tennessee and heads towards Fort Worth, Texas. They join a wagon train en route to Oregon (although not on the actual Oregon Trail) and eventually arrive in Montana to establish the Yellowstone Ranch.
