Meanwhile, a tank crew from the 10th Armored Division led by Sergeant Frank Tree and including Corporal Chuck Sitarski and Privates Foley, Reese, and Henshaw are enjoying breakfast at a local café where Wally Stephens and his friend Dennis DeSoto are employed as dishwashers. Wally is excitedly planning to enter a dance contest with his girlfriend Betty Douglas later that evening at a nearby club.
Sitarski, with his short temper, takes an immediate dislike to Wally and trips him, resulting in a fight that leaves Wally feeling humiliated. Captain Wild Bill Kelso of the United States Army Air Forces is on a wild pursuit of Japanese forces in his Curtiss P-40 Warhawk through the western states, leaving chaos in his wake. Elsewhere in Los Angeles, Major General Joseph W. Stilwell is tasked with calming the public’s fears of a possible Japanese attack on California. At Daugherty Field in Long Beach, Stilwell’s aide, Captain Loomis Birkhead, reunites with his former flame Donna Stratton, who is now working as General Stilwell’s secretary. Knowing Donna’s passion for airplanes, Birkhead invites her to join him inside the cockpit of a B-17 bomber for some seductive fun.
