6 Underground (2019)
6 Underground (2019) is an American vigilante action thriller film directed by Michael Bay and written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Four years after witnessing the atrocities committed by a cruel regime in the fictional Central Asian country of Turgistan, Magnet S. Johnson, an American billionaire who made his fortune through inventing neodymium magnets, fakes his own death and assembles an anonymous team of vigilantes to take down criminals and terrorists that are either ignored or untouchable by the rest of the world. Known only as ‘One’, he enlists five others to join his cause, each with a numbered alias like his own: Two, a spy; Three, a hitman; Four, a parkour runner and thief; Five, a doctor; and Six, a driver. Together, they are known as the ghosts. For their first mission in Florence, Italy, the team interrogates a lawyer connected to Turgistan’s top four generals for intel before making a daring escape in a bright green Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio while being pursued by both the Mafia and Italian law enforcement. Unfortunately, Six falls victim to their enemies during their getaway.
After some time has passed, One enlists the help of Blaine, an ex-Delta Force sniper who struggles with guilt for being unable to save his team in Afghanistan. Blaine is convinced to assume a new identity, Seven, and stage his own death. This is all part of One’s plan to overthrow Turgistan’s dictator Rovach Alimov and put Murat, a supporter of democracy who is currently imprisoned, in power instead. As the story unfolds, it is revealed that Two, a former CIA agent, had previously captured Murat and handed him over to Rovach against his will. The ghosts carry out their mission by assassinating Rovach’s generals in Las Vegas and extracting Murat from his penthouse prison in Hong Kong. However, during the extraction process, Four is caught and brutally beaten by one of Rovach’s men.
