88 Minutes (2007) is an American thriller film directed by Jon Avnet. In 1997, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Jack Gramm provides crucial testimony and expert psychiatric opinion at the trial of suspected serial killer Jon Forster, known as ‘The Seattle Slayer’ to the police. Gramm’s testimony leads to Forster’s conviction for the attempted killing of Janie Cates and the murder of her sister Joanie, who was drugged, hanged upside down and killed in their apartment. As Forster receives a guilty verdict from the jury, he taunts Gramm with the words ‘Tick-tock, Doc’. Nine years later, as Forster’s execution date approaches, similar torture murders occur. A lawyer from the Attorney General’s office and FBI Special Agent Frank Parks question Gramm, now teaching at the University of Washington.
Dale Morris, the latest victim, was actually a former psychology student of Gramm’s. As it turns out, they were both at the same party the night before. While on his way to teach a class, Gramm receives a call from an unknown person using a voice changer. The caller informs him that he only has 88 minutes to live. Naturally concerned, Gramm reports the call to his secretary, Shelly. He asks her to create a risk assessment profile of potential suspects. During his lecture, Gramm receives yet another threatening phone call and begins to suspect his students, specifically Mike Stempt. The dean of students, Carol Johnson, interrupts the class with news of a bomb threat on campus. In the midst of evacuating, Gramm discovers threatening messages written on both the classroom’s overhead projector and his vandalized car in the parking garage.
