How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) is an American Christmas fantasy comedy film directed by Ron Howard, who also produced with Brian Grazer. It is based on Dr. Seuss’s beloved 1957 children’s book of the same name and was the first to be adapted into a full-length feature film. As Whoville gears up for the holiday season, their plans are threatened by the Grinch, a grumpy green creature living in isolation on Mount Crumpit. One day, six-year-old Cindy Lou Who encounters him at the town’s post office and narrowly avoids getting caught in a giant mail-sorting machine. Despite his reluctance, the Grinch comes to her rescue and she learns about his troubled past through discussions with the town’s residents. He was adopted as an infant by two elderly women and had a difficult time in school due to his unusual appearance and being bullied by Augustus MayWho.

During the holiday season, the Grinch gave Martha an angel as a present and then tried to shave his face, unintentionally injuring himself multiple times. When his teacher and classmates saw the aftermath, with the exception of Martha May, they all laughed at him. This caused the young Grinch to lose his temper and declare his disdain for Christmas before retreating to Mount Crumpit with only his loyal dog Max by his side. Despite initial opposition from MayWho, who is now the mayor of Whoville, Cindy nominates the Grinch as the town’s Holiday Cheermeister. She ventures up Mount Crumpit to extend the invitation for him to attend the award ceremony, which he eventually agrees to after realizing that meeting Martha would cause a stir with MayWho.
