A Fish Called Wanda (1988) is a comedic crime caper helmed by director Charles Crichton and co-written by Crichton and John Cleese. The film follows London mobster George Thomason as he devises a daring jewel heist with his loyal assistant Ken Pile, an animal enthusiast known for his stutter. In order to execute the plan, George enlists the help of two Americans: Wanda Gershwitz, a skilled con artist, and Otto West, an unstable anti-British weapons specialist. Despite being secretly involved romantically, Wanda and Otto pose as siblings to manipulate and charm both Ken and George. As expected, the heist is a success and the group manages to escape with a fortune in diamonds which they hide away. However, things quickly take a turn when Wanda and Otto turn on George and have him arrested by the police.

Determined to double-cross even her own partner-in-crime, Wanda discovers that the loot has been moved by George into a safe deposit box for protection, with Ken holding onto the key. After finding out where Ken has stashed it – in his fish tank – Wanda cleverly steals it for herself. In order to locate the box, Wanda chooses to seduce George’s lawyer, Archie Leach, despite his unhappy marriage. Their relationship is sabotaged by Otto’s jealousy, leading to disastrous consequences. Wanda accidentally leaves her locket at Archie’s house and his wife, Wendy, mistakes it as a gift. When Wanda asks Archie to retrieve her locket, Wendy refuses to give it back. In an attempt to retrieve it, Archie stages a fake robbery at his home which is also disrupted by Otto.
