A Good Year (2006)
Ridley Scott directed and produced the romantic comedy-drama film, A Good Year (2006). Max Skinner’s parents passed away when he was young, and he spent his summer holidays at his Uncle Henry’s vineyard estate in Provence, France. Now, twenty-five years later, Max is a successful but arrogant trader in London. He inherits his uncle’s property after his passing and travels to Provence with plans to sell it quickly. Unfortunately, while driving and using his cell phone, he accidentally causes an accident involving Fanny Chenal, a local café owner. As if that wasn’t enough trouble, Max’s recent financial decisions have caused major issues for the trading company he works for in London. As a result, he is ordered to return as soon as possible.
In preparation for his property sale, Max hastily takes photos and accidentally falls into an empty pool. He becomes trapped until Fanny, who happens to drive by, turns on the water as a form of revenge. This results in Max missing his flight and being suspended from work and trading for one week since he couldn’t report to the directors in person. On Henry’s estate, he must navigate working with Francis Duflot, a gruff winemaker who is fiercely attached to his vines. Duflot pays a vineyard inspector to inform Max that the soil is poor and the vines have no value. Their plans are disrupted when Christie Roberts, a young oenophile from Napa Valley traveling through Europe, claims to be Henry’s unrecognized daughter. Despite not being officially recognized under French law, she is entitled to inherit the chateau and vineyards as his heir.
