A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014)
In the film A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014) director Seth MacFarlane teams up with writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. Set in 1882 in Old Stump, Arizona, the story follows timid sheep farmer Albert Stark as he deals with his girlfriend Louise’s breakup due to his unwillingness to engage in a duel. Frustrated with life on the frontier, Albert plans to move to San Francisco. Meanwhile, notorious outlaw Clinch Leatherwood kills an old prospector for a single gold nugget and sends his right-hand man Lewis to escort his wife Anna to Old Stump while he continues his criminal activities. Lewis and Anna pose as siblings aiming to create a farm but their cover is blown when Lewis gets arrested after getting into a fight at a saloon and shooting the pastor’s son.
In the midst of the chaos, Albert emerges as Anna’s savior. The two quickly form a close bond and decide to attend a county fair together. It is there that Louise’s conceited new boyfriend, Foy, challenges Albert to a shooting competition. Despite putting up a good fight, Albert is ultimately defeated by Foy. However, Anna steps in and proves her superior skills by defeating Foy in his own game. This leads to Foy publicly shaming Albert, causing him to impulsively challenge Foy to a duel in hopes of winning back Louise’s affections. Seeing the situation unraveling, Anna takes it upon herself to spend the next week teaching Albert how to shoot like a pro.
