John Krasinski directs A Quiet Place (2018), an American post-apocalyptic science fiction horror film written by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. The planet has been taken over by noise-sensitive aliens with invincible armor, resulting in the death of most of the humans. Survivors include the Abbott family – Evelyn, Lee, Regan (who is deaf), Marcus and Beau – who reside on their isolated farm in upstate New York. They have managed to stay alive by taking precautions such as using sand paths to avoid making noise and communicating through sign language. During a trip to the nearby town for supplies, Beau finds a toy shuttle, which Lee reluctantly makes him leave behind due to its potential noise. Despite this, Regan sneaks it back for her brother without its batteries.
After Beau’s unnoticed retrieval of the batteries, he activates the space shuttle on his walk home, causing a disturbance. Tragically, he is quickly taken by a nearby creature. More than a year later, things seem to have returned to normal for the family – with Evelyn heavily pregnant. Marcus reluctantly goes fishing with Lee while Regan visits Beau’s grave in sadness over not being able to join them. During their absence, Evelyn goes into labor and while making her way to the basement, she unknowingly steps on a nail and breaks a photo frame, alerting creatures in the vicinity. Despite her pain and tears, she manages to reach the basement where she switches on red lights throughout the house. Using an egg timer to deceive one of the creatures inside, Evelyn gives birth safely as Marcus and Lee drive out another with fireworks.
