A Quiet Place: Day One (2024), an American apocalyptic horror film directed and written by Michael Sarnoski, is the third installment in the A Quiet Place franchise. It serves as a spin-off and prequel to the series. Living at a hospice outside New York City with her cat Frodo, pessimistic and terminally ill cancer patient Samira ‘Sam’ joins a group outing to a marionette show in Manhattan at the persuasion of nurse Reuben. During their time in the city, they witness meteor-like objects falling from the sky. Suddenly, hostile extraterrestrial creatures attack, causing chaos among the crowds. Knocked unconscious, Sam later awakens at the puppet theater with Frodo and other survivors, including Henri who urges them to remain quiet. As military helicopters warn civilians to stay hidden until rescue arrives, fighter jets bomb and destroy the bridges leading out of Manhattan to contain the creatures on the island.
Amid the chaos, one survivor’s panic led to their accidental death at the hands of Henri while trying to stay quiet. Later that same night, the power grid goes out and the emergency generator loudly kicks in. Reuben manages to turn it off, but his actions attract a predator who fatally wounds him after hearing his shirt tear. In a state of distress, Sam grabs Frodo and they flee to Harlem. As they make their way, they hear an announcement from the military about evacuating civilians by boat from South Street Seaport – a necessary measure because the creatures cannot swim. The sound of people rushing towards the evacuation point alerts the creatures and results in a violent stampede. In the midst of this chaos, Sam loses track of Frodo and ends up going in the opposite direction.
