The American science fiction comedy film, Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man (1951), was directed by Charles Lamont. Freshly graduated from a private detective school, Lou Francis and Bud Alexander are approached by their first client, middleweight boxer Tommy Nelson. Tommy has just escaped from jail where he was being held for the murder of his manager. He enlists the duo to assist him in visiting his fiancée, Helen Gray, who is also the niece of Dr. Philip Gray. Tommy hopes that Dr. Gray will inject him with a special serum that will turn him invisible, giving him the chance to clear his name by investigating his manager’s murder undetected.

However, Dr. Gray firmly refuses, citing concerns about the serum’s instability and recalling how it drove its discoverer, Jack Griffin, insane before he was killed and rendered visible again. As the police arrive, Tommy injects himself with the invisibility serum and successfully disappears. Detective Roberts then interviews Dr. Gray and Helen, while Bud and Lou are tasked with finding Tommy. With the help of Helen and Tommy’s explanation that he was set up for murder after refusing to throw a boxing match, Bud and Lou agree to assist in finding the real killer. Morgan, who fixed the fight, had Tommy’s manager killed and framed him for the crime.
