Abominable (2019)
Abominable (2019), an animated adventure film from DreamWorks Animation, Pearl Studio, and Zhong Ming You Ying Film, and distributed by Universal Pictures, follows the journey of a young Yeti who escapes from a wealthy businessman’s compound in Shanghai. The man, Mr. Burnish, plans to use the Yeti as evidence of their existence to the world. Meanwhile, teenager Yi lives with her mother and Nai Nai (grandmother) in a busy apartment building. She neglects spending time with her family and friends: basketball fan Peng and his tech-savvy cousin Jin. Once an adept violinist like her father before his passing, Yi has not played since his death. One night on the roof of her Shanghai apartment building, Yi meets “Everest”, the Yeti she names after treating his wounds and gaining his trust with baozi. As she hides him from Burnish Industries’ helicopters, Everest shares his desire to return to his family on Mount Everest while discovering Yi’s dream to travel across China – something her father also wished for.
As Burnish Industries’ private security closes in on Everest’s hiding spot, he and Yi make a quick getaway. While fleeing from a Burnish helicopter near the Oriental Pearl Tower, they board a ship carrying red cola cans. Peng and Jin reluctantly join them. The group eventually reaches a port in southern China and continues their journey on a truck. A mishap causes their crate to fall off the truck, leaving them stranded in a forest. It is there that Everest impresses everyone with his ability to stimulate growth in blueberry plants. However, Mr. Burnish and zoologist Dr. Zara are still relentlessly pursuing them. They finally catch up with the group in the Sichuan region, where Everest astounds them by causing a plant to grow to an enormous size. As Yi, Everest, and Peng make their escape on a wind-blown shoot, Jin is unfortunately captured by Burnish Industries’ Goon Leader.
