Mio in the Land of Faraway (1987) is a fantasy film directed by Vladimir Grammatikov that tells the story of Bosse, an orphan in modern Stockholm. Neglected by his guardians Aunt Edna and Uncle Sixten, as well as bullied by his peers, Bosse’s only solace is his friendship with Benke. One night, he runs away in search of his father and meets Mrs Lundin, a kind shopkeeper who gives him an apple and asks him to mail a postcard to the Land of Faraway. As he mails the postcard, the apple turns golden and reveals a trapped genie. In shock, Bosse accidentally drops the apple and frees the genie.

The Canadian thriller film, The Silent Partner (1978), directed by Daryl Duke, follows Miles Cullen, a teller at a small bank in Toronto’s Eaton Centre. Miles discovers that his bank is going to be robbed after finding a hold up note on one of the counters. He recognizes the potential robber as a mall Santa Claus with similar handwriting on his ‘give to charity’ sign. Instead of alerting his superiors or contacting the police, Miles secretly stashes the cash from his window’s transactions in an old lunch box rather than in the bank’s till.
