U-571 (2000), a submarine film directed by Jonathan Mostow and co-written by Sam Montgomery and David Ayer, takes place during the Battle of the Atlantic in 1942. After successfully sinking an Allied convoy ship, German U-boat U-571 is heavily damaged by depth charges from a British destroyer.
