Adventure Time: Distant Lands (2020–2021) is an animated television limited series based on the popular show created by Pendleton Ward. It tells the stories of Finn, a young boy, and his shape-shifting canine sidekick, Jake, as they navigate through the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. Along their journey, they encounter familiar faces like Princess Bubblegum, Marceline the Vampire Queen, and BMO. The show frequently features Finn and Jake embarking on epic adventures, encountering peculiar creatures, and protecting others from menacing monsters.
Similar to the original series, The Adventure Time: Distant Lands specials were a joint project between Frederator Studios and Cartoon Network Studios. However, unlike previous seasons, these specials premiered on HBO Max, WarnerMedia Entertainment’s video on demand platform. The idea for these specials came about during the tenth season of the show when the writers began brainstorming longer storylines to explore. Among these ideas were BMO’s adventures in space and delving into Marceline and Bubblegum’s relationship. Unfortunately, production for these ambitious tales was put on hold with the cancellation of the series.
