Alex Cross (2012), the American action thriller directed by Rob Cohen, stars Tyler Perry as the lead and Matthew Fox as his antagonist, Picasso. The screenplay was written by Marc Moss and Kerry Williamson, and it is based on James Patterson’s 2006 novel Cross. Serving as the third installment in the Alex Cross film series, this movie was seen as a reboot of the franchise. Notably, Morgan Freeman previously portrayed the title character in Kiss the Girls (1997) and Along Came a Spider (2001). Unlike its predecessors distributed by Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate Films released this adaptation on October 19, 2012. However, it was poorly received by critics and turned out to be a box office flop, leading to the cancellation of a planned sequel.
The movie follows Alex Cross, a detective and psychologist, as he becomes entangled in a dangerous game with a cunning and ruthless serial killer, Picasso. As Cross and his team probe into a series of brutal murders, they engage in a high-stakes battle of wits with the elusive killer who always seems to be one step ahead. Throughout the investigation, Cross finds himself targeted by Picasso, who not only proves to be a formidable adversary but also holds a personal grudge against him. As the tension rises, Cross must rely on his intellect and detective skills to ultimately track down the killer while facing escalating danger and making personal sacrifices along the way.
