The film Alice in Wonderland (2010), directed by Tim Burton and produced by Walt Disney Pictures, follows the story of a 19-year-old Alice Kingsleigh. Still grieving the loss of her father and feeling trapped by societal expectations, Alice begins to have strange recurring dreams. At a garden party, she is proposed to by Hamish Ascot, but her attention is soon drawn to a familiar white rabbit wearing a waistcoat and carrying a pocket watch. Following the rabbit down a rabbit hole, she accidentally shrinks after drinking from a bottle labeled ‘Drink Me’ (also known as a Pishsalver). This makes it impossible for her to reach a key on a table, so she eats a cake labeled ‘Eat Me’ (known as an Upelkuchen), transforming into a giantess. She then drinks from the bottle once more to fit through a tiny door, leading her into the fantastical forest of Underland.
As she arrives, the White Rabbit, Dormouse, Dodo, Talking Flowers, and identical twins Tweedledum and Tweedledee eagerly greet her. Despite Alice’s disbelief that she is in a dream, Absolem the Caterpillar reveals her destiny to slay the Jabberwocky and overthrow the Red Queen’s oppressive rule. However, their meeting is interrupted by the ferocious Bandersnatch and the Red Queen’s knights, led by the Knave of Hearts. While most of her companions are captured, Alice and the quick-witted Dormouse manage to escape. The Knave wastes no time informing the Red Queen of Alice’s return and is sent to find her immediately. In need of guidance, Alice turns to the enigmatic Cheshire Cat who leads her to the Mad Hatter, March Hare, and Dormouse’s lively tea party. But their gathering is soon disrupted by the Red Knights and Knave of Hearts on a mission to capture Alice.
