The film Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016) was a live-action/animated fantasy adventure produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Roth Films, Team Todd, and Tim Burton Productions. For three years, Alice Kingsleigh had followed in her father’s footsteps and explored the high seas. However, upon returning to London from China, she discovered that her ex-fiancé Hamish Ascot had taken over his late father’s company. He demanded that Alice hand over her family home in exchange for her father’s ship. Following a familiar butterfly (previously known as Absolem), Alice returned to Wonderland through a mirror. She was welcomed by well-known characters such as the White Queen, White Rabbit, Tweedles, Dormouse, March Hare, Bloodhound and Cheshire Cat. They explained that the Mad Hatter was acting even more wild than usual because his family had gone missing. Even though Alice tried to comfort him, he remained convinced that they were still alive after being attacked by the Jabberwocky.

The White Queen sends Alice to consult Time in order to save the Hatter’s family in the past, as she sees it as the only solution to his declining health. However, she warns Alice that altering the past could have dire consequences, potentially destroying history if a person’s past and present selves were to meet. In Time’s Castle of Eternity, lies the Chronosphere, a powerful object that controls all of time in Wonderland. Despite being told by Time that changing the past is impossible, Alice decides to take things into her own hands and steals the Chronosphere. As she travels back in time, she unexpectedly finds herself in the company of the exiled Red Queen who is under Time’s care. The Red Queen demands that Time pursue Alice, but she accidentally ends up at the Red Queen’s coronation where a younger version of the Mad Hatter taunts her for not being able to fit into her royal crown.
