Alien: Covenant (2017)
Alien: Covenant (2017) is a science fiction horror film directed and produced by Ridley Scott, with writing contributions from John Logan, Dante Harper, Michael Green, and Jack Paglen. This joint American and British production serves as a sequel to Prometheus (2012) and the sixth addition to the Alien franchise. In the prologue, business magnate Peter Weyland converses with his newly activated android in a lakeside apartment. The android takes inspiration from Michelangelo’s statue and chooses the name ‘David’ for himself. While discussing their future plans, Weyland is unsettled by David’s reminder of his own limited lifespan compared to the android’s unlimited one.
In 2104 AD, after the Prometheus mission and 11 years later, the Covenant colonization vessel is on track to reach planet Origae-6 in seven years. On board are 2,000 colonists in stasis and 1,140 human embryos preserved in cold storage. Overseen by Walter, an advanced android similar to David, the ship experiences damage from a neutrino burst. This prompts Walter to revive the human crew members. Tragically, Captain Jake Branson is killed due to a malfunction in his stasis pod. As repairs are made, the team detects a transmission of a human voice coming from a neighboring planet that appears more suitable for habitation than Origae-6. Despite Daniels’ concerns (Branson’s widow) that this seemingly idyllic new planet may be too good to be true, Captain Christopher Oram decides they will investigate.
