Alien Resurrection (1997), an American science fiction horror film directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and written by Joss Whedon, is set two hundred years after the events of Alien 3. The space vessel USM Auriga houses military scientists who have successfully cloned Ellen Ripley using DNA from blood samples taken before her death. In this clone, named Ripley 8, the Xenomorph queen’s DNA has been combined with Ripley’s own, resulting in enhanced strength and reflexes, acidic blood, and a psychic link with the Xenomorphs. The scientists harvest eggs from the clone while keeping her alive for further observation. Due to the Xenomorph’s genetic memory, Ripley 8 also possesses some of Ripley’s memories. The members of a hired team, comprised of Elgyn, Johner, Christie, Vriess, Hillard, and Call, arrived at Auriga aboard their vessel known as the Betty. They brought with them a group of humans who had been taken against their will and placed in stasis.

These individuals were then used by military scientists as incubators for Xenomorphs, resulting in the creation of several adult specimens for experimentation. The crew of the Betty soon encountered Ripley 8, whom Annalee Call recognized and deemed a possible threat due to her potential connection to the Xenomorphs. However, it was discovered that the creatures had already been cloned. In a chaotic turn of events, the mature Xenomorphs broke free from containment using one of their own acidic blood to escape and captured Dr. Jonathan Gediman. This led to destruction onboard the Auriga and caused casualties among those who failed to evacuate, including General Perez and Elgyn. The ship’s military scientist Dr. Wren then revealed that its emergency protocol was set to return to Earth.
