American Crime Story (2016–2024) is an American anthology true crime television series created and produced by a team that includes Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, as well as Brad Falchuk, Nina Jacobson, Ryan Murphy, and Brad Simpson. It is part of the American Story media franchise, which also includes American Horror Story. Each season stands alone as a miniseries and is not connected to previous seasons. The show airs on FX in the United States and has recently been renewed for a fourth season set to premiere in 2024.

1) The People v. O. J. Simpson (2016). The limited series provides a gripping portrayal of the infamous O.J. Simpson trial, delving into the legal teams’ efforts to prove or disprove the football legend’s guilt in a double homicide case. Adapted from Jeffrey Toobin’s book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson, it uncovers the chaotic behind-the-scenes actions and strategies employed by both sides of the court, ultimately leading to reasonable doubt due to a combination of overconfidence in the prosecution, cunning defense tactics, and the LAPD’s troubled relationship with the city’s African-American community.

2) The Assassination of Gianni Versace (2018). Maureen Orth’s book, Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History, serves as the basis for the season. The series delves into the July 1997 murder of iconic fashion designer, Gianni Versace by Andrew Cunanan, a sociopathic spree killer.

3) Impeachment (2021). The third season of the series Impeachment was largely inspired by the Clinton–Lewinsky scandal and the events that took place during Clinton’s presidency. The show was based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book, A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President.
