Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman created American Dad! (2005–2024), an animated sitcom for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The show moved to TBS in 2014 and continues to debut new episodes. It was also the first series to premiere on Fox’s Animation Domination block. American Dad! has received several award nominations, including four Primetime Emmy Awards and two Annie Awards. In June 2013, it was recognized as a top television series by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. As of December 18, 2023, there have been a total of 366 episodes aired since its debut. However, there is some disagreement about the number of seasons and how episodes are organized due to conflicting sources. One viewpoint suggests that the first season consists of 7 episodes while another suggests it includes 23 episodes.
The series centers on the eccentric Smith family, consisting of father Stan, a CIA agent and Republican who is the breadwinner; his wife Francine, a homemaker; their daughter Hayley, a liberal college student; and their son Steve, a dorky high schooler. Along with them are four other main characters: Hayley’s boyfriend turned husband Jeff Fischer, the family’s unique goldfish Klaus with the brain of an East German athlete, the flamboyant and self-serving alien Roger, and Roger’s ex-tumor son Rogu. Stan’s boss, Deputy Director of the CIA Avery Bullock, also makes recurring appearances.
