Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013) is a continuation of the American comedy film from 2004, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Like its predecessor, it is directed by Adam McKay and produced and written by Judd Apatow, McKay and Will Ferrell. In the film’s setting of 1980, Ron Burgundy and Veronica Corningstone are happily married co-anchors for a prestigious news network in New York City. However, when Mack Tannen, the most renowned nightly news anchor in the city announces his retirement, he promotes Corningstone as his successor, making her the first female to hold such a position in television history. Unfortunately for Burgundy, his consistently poor performance on air results in him being fired from the network. Feeling envious of his wife’s success, he abruptly leaves their home and their young son Walter behind. Six months later finds Burgundy back in San Diego struggling to find work due to his depression over the situation.
After experiencing a series of unfortunate events, which included being fired from SeaWorld and a failed suicide attempt, Burgundy is presented with a job opportunity by Freddie Shapp at GNN, the first 24-hour news network. Together with his loyal dog Baxter, he reunites with his comrades Champ Kind, Brian Fantana, and Brick Tamland. While their arrogant rival Jack Lime is given a prestigious primetime slot, Burgundy’s team is relegated to the late-night shift. To add to his troubles, Burgundy discovers that Corningstone is now dating psychologist Gary. However, as GNN officially launches, Burgundy decides to cater to the audience’s desires instead of presenting hard-hitting news. With a sensationalist and patriotic approach, their ratings soar and they even surpass Lime’s numbers. In a twist of fate, Burgundy wins a bet against Lime and forces him to legally change his name to Jack Lame.
