Anger Management (2003)
Anger Management (2003), an American buddy comedy film directed by Peter Segal and written by David S. Dorfman, follows the story of Dave Buznik as he navigates through various challenges in his life. As a young boy growing up in Brooklyn in 1978, Dave experiences humiliation at the hands of local bully Arnie Shankman when his pants are unexpectedly pulled down during what was supposed to be his first kiss. Flash forward twenty-five years and Dave is now working as a secretary for his disrespectful boss, Frank. The traumatic bullying incident has left Dave with a fear of showing physical affection, causing tension in his relationship with girlfriend Linda. Adding to his problems is narcissistic co-worker Andrew, who not only desires to rekindle an old flame with Linda but also regularly undermines Dave in the workplace.
He was arrested for assaulting a flight attendant and sentenced to anger management with Dr. Buddy Rydell, a renowned therapist who happened to be seated next to him on the plane. During a group therapy session, Dave lost his composure when he couldn’t understand Buddy’s question and had to interact with other clients who were more aggressive with their anger. As a result, Dave’s initial 30-day sentence was extended when he accidentally broke a waitress’s nose while defending himself from a blind man’s cane. In court, Dave was at risk of being sent to prison until Buddy intervened and spoke to the judge. The court then ordered ‘radical round-the-clock therapy’, which involved living with Dave and accompanying him to work. However, these unorthodox techniques only caused Dave to become passive aggressive.
