Anna (2019)

Luc Besson wrote, produced and directed Anna (2019), an action thriller film. The movie follows a young Russian woman named Anna who is trapped in an abusive relationship and desperate for a way out. Alex, a KGB agent, recognizes her plight and offers her a chance to become a field operative. After intensive training, she is informed that she will work under Olga, a senior handler at the KGB, for five years before being allowed to leave the agency and start anew. However, the new director of the KGB, Vassiliev, goes back on this agreement and sees former agents as liabilities rather than assets. He believes that death is the only path to freedom for them. To escape this fate, Anna takes on the identity of a fashion model in Paris while carrying out various missions and assassinations.
In order to avoid raising suspicion, she begins a romantic involvement with fellow model Maude, who has been endorsed by Olga. Once the CIA discovers her true identity, she is coerced into joining them as a double agent under the supervision of Agent Leonard Miller. In return for her cooperation, they promise her a fresh start in Hawaii. Miller enlists her to eliminate Vassiliev, as the agency believes that his successor will foster a better relationship with the KGB. During a chess match between Anna and Vassiliev, she takes advantage of the opportunity to eliminate him and then makes her escape from the KGB headquarters by force. She later arranges a meeting with both Alex and Miller, returning stolen information to each while alluding to the existence of a backup copy that could be released if anything should happen to her.
