Annapolis (2006)

Annapolis (2006), an American drama directed by Justin Lin, follows the story of Jake Huard. After being knocked down in a boxing match, Huard wakes up and heads home where his distant father and employer doubts his potential. Despite this, Lieutenant Commander Burton visits Huard to inform him of his acceptance to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. While celebrating at a bar with friends, they introduce him to Ali, who they claim is a prostitute hired as a going-away present. However, Huard’s attempts to seduce Ali fail and he leaves frustrated after saying goodbye to his father. On his first day at the Academy, Huard is surprised to find out that his instructor Ali, a Midshipman 2nd Class, is the same woman his friends had introduced him to.

Along with her fellow instructor Whitaker, they initiate hazing on Huard’s class of plebes. The intensity of the program causes Huard to struggle academically and fall to the bottom of his class. Their company commander, Midshipman Lieutenant Cole, a former enlisted Marine, declares his intention to dismiss any midshipman he deems unfit for officer training. Sharing a room with Nance (known as Twins), Loo, and Estrada (who is targeted by Whitaker due to his ethnicity), Huard faces difficulties when Estrada is given an order to rid himself of a supposed odor. Despite being unable to complete the task, Estrada falsely claims he has succeeded.
