The Island (2005) is an American science fiction thriller film, directed and co-produced by Michael Bay based on a story by Tredwell-Owen. On July 19, 2019, residents of a secluded compound, including Lincoln Six Echo and Jordan Two Delta, are governed by strict rules as they believe the outside world is no longer habitable except for one pathogen-free island. In this dystopian setting, a lottery determines who gets to leave the compound and live on the island each week. However, Lincoln begins experiencing dreams that he knows are not his own memories. When Dr. Merrick, the scientist in charge of the compound, becomes concerned about his behavior, he implants probes into Lincoln’s body to monitor his brain activity.
One day while sneaking into an off-limits power facility with James McCord, a technician working in the basement, Lincoln discovers a moth in a ventilation shaft which leads him to question whether their world is truly contaminated after all. Lincoln discovers that the ‘lottery’ is more than just a game – it’s actually a way to handpick residents for organ donation, surrogacy, and other services for their wealthy sponsors who are their identical clones. This knowledge prompts Lincoln to flee the compound with Jordan, who has also been chosen for this fate. Together, they venture into the unknown world outside. However, Merrick is determined to bring them back and enlists help from Albert Laurent, a mercenary and former GIGN member.
