Arthur 3: The War of the Two Worlds (2010) is a fantasy animated/live-action film directed and co-written by Luc Besson. It is based on the fourth book in the Arthur children’s books series by Besson and was shot back-to-back with its predecessor. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, it was a box-office success in France. However, due to the previous films’ under-performance worldwide, it resulted in significant losses for EuropaCorp. In the United States, it was released directly to video, while in the United Kingdom and Ireland, it was combined with its second installment under the title Arthur and the Great Adventure.
Continuing from the second film, Maltazard has grown to human size and abandoned Arthur, who is now tiny. Together with Princess Selenia and her brother Prince Betameche, Arthur sets out to retrieve a potion that can restore his size from his home. Unfortunately, Maltazard seizes the potion for himself and uses it to enlarge his followers. Thankfully, Arthur regains his human form thanks to an Elixir of Life given by a queen bee. In a surprising turn of events, Archibald convinces Darkos, Maltazard’s son, to switch sides and then uses another potion to enlarge him. With Darkos on their side, Arthur and Darkos confront Maltazard in a final showdown. Selenia and Betameche manage to shrink Maltazard back to Minimoy size while Arthur captures him. The U.S. Army also joins in and manages to defeat Maltazard’s forces. As a result, Maltazard becomes a prisoner of Arthur’s family.
