Atomic Blonde (2017), an American action thriller film directed by David Leitch, is adapted from the graphic novel The Coldest City by Antony Johnston and Sam Hart. Set in November 1989, just before the fall of the Berlin Wall, MI6 agent James Gascoigne is killed and his wristwatch, which contains a crucial microfilm document known as The List, is stolen by KGB agent Yuri Bakhtin. In response, top-level MI6 spy Lorraine Broughton is called in for a debriefing with MI6 executive Eric Gray and CIA agent Emmett Kurzfeld about her recent mission in Berlin. Throughout the film, flashbacks transport viewers to Lorraine’s experiences in Berlin while maintaining a parallel storyline in the debrief room.

It was November of 1989 in London. Lorraine Broughton, a stunning MI6 agent, sat in an intense debrief with her superior, Eric Gray. Despite her objections, CIA agent Emmett Kurzfeld was also present. The debrief revolved around their recent mission in Berlin that had gone awry and ultimately played a part in the fall of the wall. The late MI6 agent James Gascoine was tasked with obtaining a vital list of secret agents from a Stasi operative known as Spyglass. However, the list fell into the wrong hands – specifically, the KGB – which could have disastrous consequences for the Cold War’s balance of power.
