Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), an American epic science fiction film, is co-produced and directed by James Cameron. Together with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, Cameron co-wrote the screenplay based on a story they created with Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. Sixteen years have passed since the Na’vi successfully defended Pandora against the Resources Development Administration (RDA). Jake Sully, now chief of the Omatikaya clan, lives happily with his family consisting of his wife Neytiri and their children Neteyam, Lo’ak, Tuk, and Kiri (born from Grace Augustine’s inert avatar). The late Colonel Miles Quaritch’s son, Spider, is also part of their family dynamics as he is raised by human scientists while living on Pandora. However, peace is disrupted when the RDA returns to colonize Pandora under the leadership of Frances Ardmore.
This time, they bring along Recombinants – Na’vi avatars implanted with the memories of deceased human soldiers – who are headed by Quaritch’s Recombinant. One year later, Jake leads a guerilla campaign against the RDA. During a counterinsurgency mission, Quaritch and his subordinates capture Jake’s children. Luckily, Jake and Neytiri come to their rescue. However, Quaritch is able to capture Spider, who he soon recognizes as his own son. Despite attempts to extract valuable information from him, Spider remains loyal to his family and culture. In an unexpected turn of events, Quaritch decides to spend time with Spider in order to gain his trust and learn about Na’vi customs through him. Knowing the potential danger this poses, Jake’s family moves away from their old home with the Omatikaya tribe and settles in the eastern sea region of Pandora where they are welcomed by the Metkayina clan.
