Babes In Toyland (1986)
Babes in Toyland (1986) is an American Christmas musical film directed by Clive Donner. Lisa Piper, an eleven year old girl from Cincinnati, Ohio, has had to mature quickly due to her father’s passing. With no time for toys and refusing to be treated like a child, Lisa instead takes care of her family. Her older sister Mary also works hard, but faces trouble at the toy store where she is regularly harassed by the owner. When a blizzard hits on Christmas Eve and everyone leaves work early, Mary’s boyfriend Jack offers to drive them all home. Unfortunately, the snowy roads lead to an accident that sends Lisa flying out of the car and into the magical world of Toyland. Here, she arrives just in time for the wedding of Mary Contrary and Barnaby Barnacle – much to Mary’s dismay as she truly loves Barnaby’s nephew, Jack Nimble.
Lisa, along with her new companions, discovers Barnaby’s sinister plan for taking over Toyland. In desperation, Lisa turns to the benevolent Toymaster for assistance. However, the Toymaster can only aid them if Lisa truly believes in the power of toys. Suddenly, Barnaby appears and reveals his true motives, snatching a flask filled with pure evil that the Toymaster had been collecting. The villain then leaves Lisa and her group to face Trollog – a monstrous creature with a piercing eye that Barnaby uses for spying purposes. Fortunately, they outsmart Trollog by blinding it with paint and locking it away in a chest. Unfortunately, they are eventually captured and imprisoned one at a time in Barnaby’s hidden fortress.
