Batman & Robin (1997) is a film based on the popular DC Comics characters created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. As the last installment of Warner Bros.’s initial Batman series, it follows the dynamic duo as they face off against a new villain, Mr. Freeze. The icy adversary has been causing chaos with his diamond thefts, leading Batman and Robin to a showdown in the natural history museum. During their confrontation, Freeze makes a daring escape with an even bigger diamond, leaving Robin frozen and Batman unable to pursue him. However, as they dig deeper into Freeze’s past, they discover that he was once a brilliant scientist named Dr. Victor Fries. His obsession with finding a cure for his wife’s terminal illness led to a tragic accident that left him unable to survive at normal temperatures. To stay alive, he now relies on a special cryogenic suit powered by diamonds.

At a Wayne Enterprises lab in Brazil, botanist Dr. Pamela Isley is working under the deranged Dr. Jason Woodrue, who has twisted her plant research into the dangerous drug Venom. After witnessing Woodrue’s use of the formula on serial killer Antonio Diego, transforming him into the massive Bane, she threatens to reveal his unethical experiments. In response, Woodrue tries to eliminate her by tipping over a shelf of toxins. Instead of dying, Isley is transformed into the deadly Poison Ivy due to exposure to the chemicals. With a lethal kiss, Ivy kills Woodrue and causes destruction in the lab before fleeing with Bane to Gotham City. Together, they plot to use Wayne’s wealth to fund her scientific endeavors.
