Battlestar Galactica: The Plan (2009), a television film set in the reimagined Battlestar Galactica universe, follows the events leading up to the destruction of the Twelve Colonies as shown in the miniseries. Humanoid Cylon John Cavil is seen strategizing the devastating attack on humanity with the other seven known Cylons at their main base. Meanwhile, two versions of Cavil reside in a Resurrection Ship along with the mysterious ‘Final Five’ Cylons in stasis. In a brief conversation, the two Cavils discuss their plans for punishing their creators. One version of Cavil makes his way to witness the annihilation of humanity firsthand on planet Picon where he crosses paths with Ellen Tigh. Other characters from the series also make appearances: Gaius Baltar has a final meeting with Caprica Six, while Samuel Anders is at his team’s training camp with the team doctor, Number Four/Simon.
Meanwhile, Tory Foster is seen driving to an airport. The destruction of the Twelve Colonies is captured through a series of new special effects shots, accompanied by the Cylon Hybrid’s poetic narration. The various planets of the Colonies are briefly shown in these scenes. During the nuclear attack on Picon, Ellen Tigh sustains severe injuries and is aided by Cavil in escaping aboard a Colonial Fleet rescue ship. On a civilian transport, Cavil taunts her about his plans to destroy humanity as she struggles to stay conscious. Similarly, Tory Foster survives but is injured when her car flips over in the blast. In the mountains where they were training, Anders offers comfort to his fellow teammates.
