Baywatch (2017)

Baywatch (2017) is an American action comedy film directed by Seth Gordon, with a screenplay by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon. It tells the story of Lt. Mitch Buchannon, a beloved member of an elite lifeguard division in Emerald Bay, Florida. Along with his colleagues like Stephanie Holden and C.J. Parker, Mitch works tirelessly to protect the beaches and bay from dangers. However, their efforts are often met with resistance from beat cop Garner Ellerbee and his superior, Captain Thorpe. During one morning patrol, Mitch discovers a pouch of flakka near the Huntley Club owned by powerful businesswoman Victoria Leeds. Later on, he meets Matt Brody, an Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer who believes he can easily join the team without trying out. To determine his worthiness, Mitch organizes a series of physical tests which Brody ultimately passes and earns himself a spot on the team alongside Ronnie Greenbaum and Summer Quinn.

After a yacht catches fire and Baywatch evacuates all occupants except for city councilman Rodriguez who passes away, Mitch and his team begin to suspect foul play. Despite Ellerbee’s disapproval, they continue to investigate and discover that Rodriguez was indeed murdered. While attempting to gather evidence in the hospital morgue, they capture footage of Leeds’ associates planting a false autopsy report. However, their plan is foiled when they are caught and the video is destroyed. In response, Thorpe warns Mitch that any further attempts to uncover the truth will result in his termination. Nevertheless, Mitch becomes even more convinced of Leeds’ illegal activities and with Brody’s help, they go undercover on the Huntley where they witness drugs being smuggled within barrels of fish. As they inform Ellerbee about their findings, news of another body found on the beach surfaces.
