When Joon loses a bet during a poker game with friends and agrees to let Sam, the eccentric cousin of Benny’s friend Mike, stay with them, Benny is initially upset. However, after spending an evening at the local diner with Sam and coming home to find that he has cleaned the house, Benny changes his mind and decides to let Sam stay. With Joon’s help, as Sam is struggling with writing to his mother due to being illiterate, they visit the local diner where Ruthie works. She takes them on an errand before returning to their home for dinner.
As they are left alone while Ruthie’s car won’t start and Benny drives her home, Joon and Sam share a kiss. Benny and Ruthie have a enjoyable date, but he abruptly cuts it short to return home to Joon. Interested in finding employment, Sam heads to a video store. Together, the three of them visit a park where Sam captivates the crowd with his hat tricks. While Benny stays behind to contemplate, Joon accompanies Sam back to their shared home and they express their love for each other. Things take a turn when Benny offers suggestions for Sam’s comedy routines, causing Joon to become agitated and force Sam to reveal their romantic relationship. This angers Benny who kicks Sam out, berates Joon, and presents her with information about a group home that may be more suitable for her. In an emotional outburst, Joon hits Benny and screams while he pushes her away.
