Between Two Ferns: The Movie (2019)

The American comedy film Between Two Ferns: The Movie (2019) is directed by Scott Aukerman and stars Zach Galifianakis. It is a spin-off of the popular web series hosted by Galifianakis himself. Will Ferrell discovered the show and uploaded it to Funny or Die, making Zach a viral sensation with millions of views due to his unique and unconventional hosting style. During an interview with Matthew McConaughey, a mishap involving a sprinkler system causes chaos and attracts even more viewers. This leads Will to offer Zach the opportunity to produce ten episodes within two weeks and become president of Funny or Die. Excited about the chance to have his own talk-show, Zach accepts and embarks on a road trip.

Although the road trip proves successful, Zach forms a strong bond with his crew. While interviewing guests such as David Letterman, Paul Rudd, Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, Jon Hamm, Hailee Steinfeld, Awkwafina, Tiffany Haddish, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Tessa Thompson (with whom he has an affair following Jake Gyllenhaal’s cancelled flight), they all prove to be successful interactions. However, due to their extravagant activities, Zach runs low on funds. As a result of this predicament, his manager Carol (played by Lauren Lapkus) resorts to stealing Fabergé eggs from Peter Dinklage during his interview. This desperate act allows them to obtain enough money for their return to Los Angeles. Although Zach carelessly causes an accident by reading emails while driving and destroys his beloved ferns in the process, he is able to reconcile with his crew and ultimately secure the deal upon their return to Los Angeles.
