Big Driver (2014) is an American crime thriller television film based on the novella of the same name by Stephen King, which was published in his collection Full Dark, No Stars (2010). Tess Thorne, a successful crime-mystery writer, receives an invitation to meet her fans at a library in upstate Massachusetts. Despite her fear of flying, she chooses to drive to her engagements rather than fly, even for long distances. During one such event, organized by Ramona, she is offered a quicker route home. However, this route takes her through a remote rural location where her car runs over nail-studded planks on the road and punctures her tire. Stranded by an abandoned gas station with no cell phone signal, Tess hopes for someone to stop and help. Fortunately, a man in a pickup truck offers his assistance. While initially appearing eager to help, his attitude soon turns hostile.
After being dragged into a culvert, Tess regains consciousness to find herself alone and discovers the bodies of three other women, presumably also victims of the same person. She heads off in search of assistance, but fears the potential backlash she may face from the media and society for the assault. It could potentially ruin her reputation and cause further distress. Eventually, she stumbles upon a convenience store and uses their phone to call for a limousine to take her home. Deciding to keep her ordeal to herself, Tess begins planning her revenge. Later on, she receives a call from Betsy, a waitress at the Stagger Inn, informing her that her car is there. The two connect over their shared experience as victims of violence.
