Birds of Prey (2020)

Birds of Prey (2020) is an American superhero film directed by Cathy Yan and written by Christina Hodson, based on the DC Comics team the Birds of Prey. Several years after defeating the Enchantress, Harley Quinn finds herself abandoned by the Joker and thrown onto the streets of Gotham City. She is taken in by Doc, owner of a Taiwanese restaurant, where she starts to recover from her broken relationship. In an effort to move on, Harley cuts her hair, adopts a spotted hyena, and takes up roller derby. It’s during a night out at a club owned by crime boss Roman Sionis that things start to get messy. After an insult from Sionis’ driver, Harley unleashes her wrath and causes trouble for herself in the process. Fortunately, she is rescued by Dinah Lance, a talented burlesque performer who catches Sionis’ eye and becomes his new driver. As rumors spread about Harley’s split from the Joker, she soon realizes that all her old enemies are now coming after her with a vengeance.

Meanwhile, GCPD Detective Renee Montoya investigates a series of mob killings carried out by a crossbow-wielding vigilante. She attempts to recruit Dinah as an informant, but Dinah declines due to the GCPD’s inability to prevent her mother’s death. Sionis sends Dinah and his sadistic right-hand-man Victor Zsasz to retrieve a diamond containing the account numbers for the fortune of the Bertinelli crime family, who were massacred years ago. A young pickpocket named Cassandra “Cass” Cain steals the diamond from Zsasz and swallows it after being arrested. While attempting to evade Montoya and others, Harley is caught by Sionis’ men. Threatened with death, Sionis tasks Harley with retrieving the diamond for him and also puts a bounty on Cassandra. To free Cassandra, Harley uses a grenade launcher loaded with paint and sparkle rounds to break into the GCPD, where they then escape together.
