Black Lightning (2018 — 2021)

The CW’s Black Lightning (2018–2021) is an action-packed superhero drama, created by Salim Akil and based on the DC Comics character of the same name. Premiering in January 2018 and concluding in May 2021, the series follows Jefferson Pierce, a high school principal in Freeland, Georgia. Years ago, Jefferson hung up his Black Lightning suit to protect his family from the dangers of his double life. But when the notorious criminal organization known as The 100 threatens his loved ones, Jefferson is forced to don the mantle once again. His daughters Anissa and Jennifer also gain superpowers: Anissa becomes Thunder and Jennifer develops electrical abilities. Meanwhile, Jennifer’s boyfriend Khalil Payne is transformed into Painkiller by Tobias Whale’s influence. A pivotal moment occurs when The 100 captures Anissa and Jennifer; as they fight for their survival, Gambi intervenes and ultimately helps them defeat villainous A.S.A. member Martin Proctor. In the chaos that ensues, Tobias gains access to crucial information through Proctor’s briefcase.fer defeats him with Proctor getting shot by Gambi. Proctor’s briefcase enables Tobias to get access to its contents.

In season two, Jennifer and Tobias both work to strengthen their abilities while the Freeland Police Department’s Bill Henderson becomes aware of Jefferson and Anissa’s alter egos. They continue their battle against the 100, while Lynn focuses on the young metahumans held in pods by Proctor’s organization. She is under the watchful eye of A.S.A. agent Odell, who has convinced former Markovian scientist Dr. Helga Jace to aid them, unaware of her secret allegiance to Tobias. After Khalil’s apparent death, Jennifer adopts the persona of Lightning to support her father. With some help from a translated document, Tobias gains control of the Masters of Disaster.

In season three, martial law is imposed on Freeland by the A.S.A., who also deceive the public by claiming there is a SARS epidemic. Some suspected metahumans are taken to an A.S.A. facility where Odell plans to use their abilities as weapons for his own agenda. To enforce this agenda, he employs Commander Carson Williams, Major Sara Grey, and Sergeant Gardner Grayle. Additionally, he revives Khalil and manipulates him into serving him.

In season four, a year has passed and Jefferson is no longer Black Lightning. The 100 and the Kobra Cartel are in a turf war, while Tobias has taken on the role of a philanthropist, much to the disappointment of the Pierces and Gambi. Following Henderson’s death, Ana Lopez is sworn in as the new chief of police by Mayor Billy Black. Troubles arise for Jefferson and his friends when Tobias orchestrates the murder of Mayor Black. Meanwhile, Destiny from the Kobra Cartel hires assassin Ishmael to eliminate Jefferson’s allies, in order to gain entry into the League of Assassins through metahuman kills.
