Blade II (2002), an American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character, was directed by Guillermo del Toro and written by David S. Goyer. In Prague, our protagonist Blade sets out to find his mentor Abraham Whistler, who was believed to be deceased after an attack by Deacon Frost but instead was turned into a vampire and held captive for two years. After questioning vampire Rush about Whistler’s whereabouts, Blade successfully rescues him and cures him of his vampirism. Whistler then meets Scud, a young and talented technician working with Blade. Meanwhile, a pandemic is causing vampires to transform into savage creatures known as ‘Reapers’ with an insatiable thirst for blood. The highly infectious bite of these Reapers can turn both humans and vampires alike. The source of this virus is Jared Nomak, who harbors deep resentment toward the vampire race.
To combat the Reapers, vampire overlord Eli Damaskinos sends his trusted servant Asad and his daughter, Nyssa, to strike a truce with Blade. Knowing humans will be the next target of the Reapers, Blade reluctantly allies himself with them. He teams up with an elite group of vampires known as the Bloodpack, who were originally assembled to kill him. This group consists of Asad, Nyssa, Reinhardt, Chupa, Snowman, Priest, Verlaine, and her lover Lighthammer. As Reinhardt openly challenges him, Blade attaches an explosive to the back of his head in response to keep him in line. Together they explore a vampire nightclub where they come face to face with the Reapers and discover that they are immune to most traditional vampire weaknesses except for UV exposure.
