Blade: Trinity (2004), an American superhero film, was written and directed by David S. Goyer, who also penned the screenplays for Blade and Blade II. In the movie, a group of vampires investigate an ancient tomb in the Syrian Desert believed to belong to Dracula, also known as ‘Drake’. To prevent Blade from interfering, they frame him for the murder of a human familiar. Subsequently, FBI agents locate Blade’s hideout and fatally wound his mentor and friend Abraham Whistler. Feeling defeated, Blade turns himself in and is taken into custody. The vampires’ familiars arrange for Blade to be handed over to them. However, he is saved by Hannibal King and Abigail Whistler (Abraham’s daughter), who invite him to join their team of vampire hunters called the Nightstalkers.
From them, Blade discovers that Danica Talos (an old foe of King) has resurrected Drake with the intention of using his powers to cure vampires of their weaknesses. As the progenitor of vampires, Drake is immune to sunlight. In addition to their groundbreaking ultraviolet “Sun dog” ammo, the Nightstalkers have developed an experimental bioweapon called Daystar, designed to destroy vampires at a genetic level. However, in order for it to work effectively, they require a more pristine blood source. As Drake is too formidable to be killed by conventional methods, they are counting on the virus to eliminate him and use his blood to eradicate the rest of the species. Unfortunately, this would also result in Blade’s demise. Excited for a chance to test Blade’s abilities, Drake separates him from the Nightstalkers.
