Blow (2001) is an American biographical crime drama film directed by Ted Demme, centered around an American cocaine kingpin and his global network. George Jung, alongside his parents Fred and Ermine, reside in Weymouth, Massachusetts. At the age of 10, Fred declares bankruptcy and attempts to show George the importance of values beyond money. As an adult in the late 1960s, George moves to Los Angeles with his close friend ‘Tuna’, where they meet Barbara – a flight attendant who introduces them to Derek Foreal, a marijuana dealer. With Derek’s assistance, George and Tuna amass a substantial amount of wealth. After hearing from visiting college student Kevin Dulli about the high demand for marijuana in Boston, they take advantage and begin selling directly from Mexico with the help of Santiago Sanchez – a Mexican drug lord.

However, after two years, George is apprehended in Chicago while attempting to import 660 pounds (300 kg) of marijuana and ultimately receives a two-year prison sentence. Following an unsuccessful attempt to prove his innocence, George flees while on bail to care for Barbara, who sadly loses her battle with cancer. Her passing marks the end of their group of friends. While evading authorities, George pays a visit to his parents. However, his mother contacts the police and he is subsequently arrested. A 26-month prison sentence awaits him at a federal facility in Danbury, Connecticut. In prison, George shares a cell with Diego Delgado, who happens to have connections with the Medellin cartel. Under Diego’s influence, George agrees to help him enter the cocaine business. Upon completing his sentence, George violates his parole by heading down to Cartagena, Colombia to meet with Diego.
