Blow Out (1981), an American neo-noir mystery thriller film, follows Philadelphia sound technician Jack Terry, who is working on the low-budget slasher film Co-ed Frenzy. His producer Sam tasks him with finding more realistic sound effects for the film, leading Jack to visit a local park. There, he witnesses a car swerve off the road and into a creek. While Jack is able to save a young woman named Sally Bedina and takes her to the hospital, the male driver dies. As Jack is questioned by a detective about the accident, he becomes interested in Sally and asks her out for a drink. He soon learns that Governor George McRyan, who was running for president, was driving the car with Sally as his companion.
Lawrence Henry, an associate of McRyan, convinces Jack to help keep Sally’s involvement hidden by getting her out of the hospital. As Jack listened to the audio recording of the accident, he could clearly hear a gunshot prior to the tire blow-out. This led him to believe that it may have been an assassination. Coincidentally, a man by the name of Manny Karp happened to film the accident using a motion picture camera. The images from Karp’s film were later sold to News Today Magazine, and Jack was able to piece them together with his recorded audio. Upon closer examination, he noticed a visible flash and smoke from the fired gun. Although Sally was hesitant at first, she eventually agreed to assist Jack in their private investigation of the incident.
