Blue Beetle (2023)

Blue Beetle (2023) is an American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle. Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, it is the 14th film in the DC Extended Universe. In Antarctica, members of Kord Industries, led by CEO Victoria Kord, find an ancient alien artifact called the Scarab. Meanwhile, after graduating from Gotham Law University, Jaime Reyes returns to his hometown of Palmera City but discovers his family may lose their home due to financial difficulties. He’s then offered a job at Victoria’s mansion by his sister Milagro, but they’re both fired when he intervenes in a spat between Victoria and her niece Jenny. Jenny later invites Jaime to meet her at Kord Tower for a ‘job opportunity’.

The next day, Jenny discovers that Victoria has been using the Scarab for her One Man Army Corps (OMAC) projects. She entrusts Jaime with the Scarab hidden inside a Big Belly Burger take-out box to avoid security. At his residence, Jaime’s family encourages him to unlock the Scarab box. Upon contact, the Scarab activates and merges with him, encasing him in an armored exoskeleton. In search of answers, Jaime seeks out Jenny for assistance and successfully rescues her from Victoria’s armed forces. After hearing from Jenny that the Scarab is a sentient weapon and has purposely selected Jaime as its host, he enlists help from his uncle Rudy. Together, they infiltrate Kord Tower to retrieve a smartwatch that once belonged to Jenny’s father Ted, but are confronted by Victoria’s bodyguard Ignacio Carapax, who has been infused with an OMAC prototype.
