Body Double (1984) is an American neo-noir erotic thriller film directed, co-written, and produced by Brian De Palma. Struggling actor Jake Scully has recently lost his role as a vampire in a low-budget horror film after his claustrophobia thwarts shooting. Following this unfortunate event, Scully finds himself homeless after breaking up with his cheating girlfriend, who owns their shared residence. At a method acting class, Scully confides in fellow student Sam Bouchard about his fears and the root cause of his claustrophobia during childhood. Their conversation leads to an invitation for Scully to house-sit for Sam’s wealthy friend’s modern home in Hollywood Hills while he is away on a trip to Europe. As they tour the lavish home together, Sam excitedly points out one special feature – a telescope that provides views of their neighbor Gloria Revelle erotically dancing every night at the same time.

Scully eagerly observes Gloria until she comes into view. The next day, he tails her as she goes shopping. She makes phone calls to an unidentified individual, whom she agrees to meet up with. Scully also notices a man with disfigurements, the same man he had seen watching Gloria a few days before. He follows her to a seaside motel where it seems like she’s been stood up by her intended companion. Suddenly, the Indian appears on the beach and grabs Gloria’s purse. Scully pursues him into a nearby tunnel but his fear of enclosed spaces takes over. However, Gloria helps him overcome it and they share a passionate and impulsive kiss before she leaves. Later that evening, while watching through his telescope again, Scully witnesses the Indian return and break into Gloria’s home.
